Redhorse Corporation is hiring a Lead Biologist Lead whom will work on-site at the customers facility at Fort Irwin, CA to perform services in support of natural resource management and in compliance with the Sikes Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA); other applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations; and related DoD and U.S. Army Directives (including Army Regulation 200-1, Environmental Protection and Enhancement). Primary duties will focus on leading the natural resources team, acting as senior scientist/project manager, and collaborating with staff biologists and technicians on fieldwork, research, report writing and QA/QC review. The Lead Biologist will communicate directly with the client, manage work assignments with team members, and provide technical oversight and mentorship.

The natural resource management services shall include, but are not limited to, support and implementation of the installations Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP); monitoring of threatened and endangered species and other species of concern (e.g. Desert tortoise, Mojave fringe-toed lizard, burrowing owl, Lane Mountain milkvetch, and desert cymopterus); monitoring of natural springs and seeps; maintaining weather stations/ compiling climate data; responding to wildlife calls; conducting pre-construction surveys to determine the presence or absence of wildlife and vegetation; and conducting environmental outreach briefings and events concerning Mojave Desert ecology and/or military requirements related to environmental laws.
Minimum Requirements:
Master of Science (MS) in a biological science field preferred and 8+ years of relevant experience, however, will consider a
Bachelor of Science (BS) in biology, botany, ecology or other biological science undergraduate degree and 10+ years of relevant experience.
Must have work history leading and conducting biological fieldwork and natural resources management.
Must have experience managing teams and working directly with the client.
Upon hiring the applicant must be able to pass a federal background check required prior to gaining access to unclassified government computer workstations.
Applicant must provide examples of written biological reports.

Preferred Experience:
Section 10(A)(1)(a) permitted biologist authorized to handle the desert tortoise with a clear understanding of USFWS protocol and familiarity with the Desert Tortoise Recovery Plan or have immediate plans to become a permitted biologist.
Excellent plant identification skills for species common to the Mojave Desert or experience in plant identification in other desert ecosystems with an aptitude for learning new plant species quickly.
Experience conducting general natural resource inventories, and/or experience with Fort Irwins other special status species (Mojave Fringe-Toed Lizard, Burrowing Owl, Lane Mountain Milkvetch, Desert Cymopterus, Mohave Ground Squirrel).
Experience capturing or handling wildlife species using specialized equipment (Traps, snake tongs, noose pole).
Experience operating 4x4 vehicles on unimproved dirt roads.
Experience working in the Mojave Desert ecosystem and the ability to work long days in a wide range of weather conditions.
Plant and plant community identification skills for species common to the Mojave Desert or experience in plant identification in other desert ecosystems with an aptitude for collecting habitat quality assessment data and determining habitat trends and changes in species distribution and population.
Experience utilizing camera traps to monitor small mammals, specifically the Mohave ground squirrel.
Experience mending fence breaches.
A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
Knowledge and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS).
Ability to pass a government-administered background investigation in order to be granted a Common Access Card and access to government IT systems.
